Businesses using AI models generate a growing bill for the computing behind every answer, document and automated task. Altair is connecting those bills to a new payment option: RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.
Altair, an AI model router serving business customers, and t54 Labs announced on November 4 that Altair has joined XRPL AI Hub as an x402 merchant. The integration allows customers’ daily invoices for AI model usage to be paid in RLUSD through t54’s payment facilitator.
The practical change happens at billing. Customers continue accessing models through Altair’s existing API, while their accumulated usage becomes a daily invoice that an agent or payer can settle onchain.
How an AI Bill Becomes an RLUSD Payment
Altair gives businesses a unified API for accessing AI models. It tracks each customer’s model-token consumption and produces usage-based bills and daily statements.
Here, model tokens are the units used to measure AI usage. RLUSD is the asset used to pay the resulting invoice.
The integration connects those existing invoices to x402, a protocol that lets an online service communicate payment requirements directly to software. An agent or payer requests a specific Altair invoice, receives its RLUSD payment terms and pays an Altair-controlled merchant address on the XRP Ledger. t54’s facilitator handles payment verification and settlement.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Use AI models | The customer sends requests through Altair’s API. |
| Calculate the bill | Altair meters usage and creates a daily customer invoice. |
| Retrieve payment terms | An agent or payer accesses that invoice through the x402 resource. |
| Settle in RLUSD | Payment goes to Altair’s merchant address, with verification and settlement handled by t54. |
Grouping usage into daily invoices lets Altair connect its billing process to blockchain payments without requiring a separate onchain transaction for every model request.
A Live Merchant With Recorded Payments
Altair’s public merchant profile on XRPL AI Hub lists “Altair Daily Invoice Settlement” as an active resource with variable RLUSD pricing.
At the time of checking on November 4, the profile showed 47 payments received and 12,425.94 RLUSD in total volume. These are the hub’s displayed merchant totals, rather than a disclosed count of individual customers. The profile lists an October 24 joining date, indicating activity preceded today’s announcement.
The announcement also highlights a publicly recorded invoice payment with an XRPL network fee of 10 drops, or 0.00001 XRP. That figure describes the ledger transaction cost; it does not represent the price of the AI service or establish that every other cost is zero.
For businesses, the useful development is the connection between a customer’s metered AI consumption, a specific invoice and an onchain payment record.
Blockster previously covered t54’s milestone of 10 million agent transactions on the XRP Ledger. Altair adds a concrete merchant workflow to that broader story: paying for AI services businesses already consume.
Automated Daily Payments Come Next
The next planned layer would connect Claw Credit-backed agents to individual Altair customers, with the aim of letting those agents pay daily invoices on their behalf.
That customer-level automation remains a planned stage of the collaboration. The live integration establishes the invoice payment route.
The distinction matters for businesses deciding how much financial responsibility to give software. Retrieving an invoice and settling a payment are parts of the process; an agent also needs appropriate authority to spend for the customer it represents.
Blockster explored that question in its coverage of t54 and Hecto Financial’s work on agent payment permissions, including identity checks and whether a transaction matches the user’s instructions.
A separate collaboration announced by t54 and Cline on November 3 is exploring how coding agents could purchase compute and model usage within user-set permissions. Discussing that project, t54 co-founder Chandler Fang said:
“Users should be able to let their coding agents buy the resources they need while keeping control over spending.”

Giving AI Services a Route to Onchain Customers
Altair’s integration addresses a practical opportunity for AI providers: accepting payment from agents and customers using blockchain-based money while retaining their existing model-access and billing systems.
For XRPL, it adds another service that can receive RLUSD payments through x402. For Altair, it creates a settlement option for daily business invoices. The planned Claw Credit integration would extend that workflow into delegated payment automation.
The next milestone is whether customer-linked agents can reliably handle those recurring bills within the permissions their customers set.
