Behind the Winning Film: “Grandma Likes to DCA”
The AMA then shifted to how the winning video came together.
Originally planned as a rug-pull parody, the team switched gears after being challenged to make something any crypto newcomer could understand. The result: a light-hearted explainer on Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) told through the eyes of a curious grandmother.
Shot entirely on an iPhone, the piece used simple POV clips, quick humor, and a playful fight scene to keep the story fun and accessible. Filmmaker Baxter Persse — fresh off hitting 100K YouTube subscribers — pulled an all-night edit to finish the final cut just before the deadline.
Bruno (Crypto Banter) said the project “clicked” once the final edit dropped, while Matthew (Empire Crypto Trading) called watching Persse’s creative process up close one of the most valuable parts of the campus experience.
