AI agents can already trade, hold wallets and even apply for credit. GoMining is now testing another piece of the emerging agent economy: letting them pay merchants and each other in Bitcoin.
GoBTC Pay, the Bitcoin payment protocol developed by GoMining, backed Agnic.AI's Agentic Commerce Pioneers hackathon with its own development track. Instead of submitting concepts, teams had to build working shopping-agent prototypes using the GoBTC Pay protocol.
The challenge was to create an AI agent capable of buying from almost any merchant. But the more interesting use case is what happens when the customer isn't human at all.
AI Agents Are Getting Their Own Financial Stack
Agentic finance is moving quickly beyond demos.
More than 135,000 AI agents recently applied for credit through t54, with more than $500,000 extended. MoonPay has built wallets that allow agents to hold and spend crypto, while BNB Chain has been developing infrastructure that lets agents pay their own operating expenses.
GoBTC Pay is tackling the next question: what happens when one agent needs to pay another?
A research agent could purchase data. A coding agent could buy additional compute. A shopping agent could pay another service to verify a product before ordering it.
These transactions could happen automatically, across borders and without someone pulling out a credit card every time.
Why GoBTC Pay Is Betting on Bitcoin
GoBTC Pay settles directly on Bitcoin Layer 1 rather than converting payments to fiat by default. Payers pay no GoBTC Pay fee, while merchants pay 0.2%, split between the wallet provider and miners processing settlement.
The protocol uses a 2-of-3 multisignature setup involving the user, GoMining and a regulated third-party custodian, with the payer retaining a key.
Transactions are also routed through GoMining's private mempool using Stratum V2, giving them priority within its own mining pool.
That mining infrastructure is what differentiates the product. GoMining isn't simply adding a Bitcoin checkout button. It operates part of the infrastructure underneath the payment itself.
The company has already been moving in this direction. GoMining CEO Mark Zalan recently described payments as an important part of Bitcoin's next chapter beyond simply holding the asset.

When the Shopper Is Software
Roman Yermoshin, General Manager at GoBTC Pay, believes shopping agents are only the beginning.
“Agents will also start settling up with each other for the services they provide to one another, and they will do it in Bitcoin.”
That's the bigger experiment behind the hackathon.
AI agents are acquiring wallets, credit, spending permissions and payment rails. The next stage is seeing what happens when those pieces start working together.
Humans may still decide how much an agent is allowed to spend and what it can buy. But they may not be standing at checkout anymore.
