There are more than 10 000 cryptocurrency projects currently, each having a dedicated team behind it. While some crypto founders choose to remain anonymous for various reasons, such as in Bitcoin, most prefer to come out publicly to claim all the credit for their successful projects.

Some founders have also been involved in more than one crypto project, earning them much deserved respect in the crypto space. Here’s a look at founders who have been involved in more than one crypto project.

This list isn’t exhaustive as there are many crypto founders that have multiple projects and innovate across the board. The most renowned ones are listed below.

Brian Armstrong

Projects: Coinbase and GiveCrypto

Brian Armstrong is the co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, one of the world’s popular cryptocurrency exchanges based in California. Brian has vast experience in software development, learning Java and CSS programming languages as a teenager and graduating with computer science and economics. He has worked as a developer in several leading organizations, including IBM, Airbnb, and Deloitte.

The 35-year-old launched Coinbase in 2012 through venture capital funding. Coinbase has grown to become one of the world-leading cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets. Coinbase is among the few crypto exchanges that allow users to buy cryptos, including BTC, LTC, ETH, and BCH, using regular debit cards.

Apart from Coinbase, Brian also co-founded GiveCrypto, a nonprofit philanthropy organization that facilitates crypto donations to people living in poverty across the globe to empower them via investment opportunities.

Charles Hoskinson

Projects: Ethereum, Input-Output (HK), Bitshares Network, Cardano

Charles Hoskinson is a well-renowned figure in the crypto space with several crypto projects under his name. Hoskinson co-founded Ethereum with seven other founders, including Vitalik Buterin, in late 2013. In 2014, Hoskinson left Ethereum after a disagreement with Buterin on the direction the project should take Hoskinson held a commercial view while Buterin rooted for a nonprofit focus.

Following his departure from Ethereum, Hoskinson teamed up with Jeremy Wilcke (also an Ethereum co-founder) to create a blockchain company IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong) concerned with developing blockchains and cryptocurrency.

The company’s main project is Cardano, launched in 2017. Cardano is a third generation PoS blockchain platform that offers security and sustainability to dApps and related technologies. Charles also founded Bitshares Network, a decentralized blockchain platform to securely trade cryptos and offer a more efficient global payment network.

He’s also the founding chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation educational committee and the founder of Cryptocurrency Research Group. Charles is very interested in Blockchain and has made enormous contributions to blockchain research labs at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Edinburgh.

Gavin Wood

Projects: Ethereum, Polkadot, Web3 Foundation

Gavin Wood has several crypto projects under his name, making him one of the most popular blockchain developers. The 41-year-old genius started as a research scientist at Microsoft before co-founding Ethereum with Vitalik Buterin and others in late 2013 and early 2014.

Wood is credited for developing Solidity, a programming language for developing dApps and smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. In 2014, he also wrote a Yellow Paper describing the Ethereum Virtual Machine, the core of Smart contracts in Ethereum. He was later appointed Ethereum’s Foundation CTO.

Wood left Ethereum in 2016 to pursue individual interests. He established the Web3 Foundation-a nonprofit organization developing decentralized internet infrastructure and technology. The foundation launched Polkadot a blockchain protocol that facilitates blockchain interoperability by transferring arbitrary data across blockchain networks.

In simple terms, the protocol allows independent blockchain networks to communicate with each other and execute transactions.

Jed McCaleb

Projects: Mt. Gox, Ripple, Stellar

Aged 46 years, Jed McCaleb is a serial crypto founder with three crypto projects under his name. He’s a pioneer in the crypto space, being one of the first developers to create a crypto exchange. He made the first significant crypto exchange Mt. Gox in 2010 before selling it a year later. In 2012, he founded Ripple with Chris Larsen and others. In July 2013, he left Ripple after a fallout with fellow founders.

In 2014, he co-founded Stellar Development Foundation with Joyce Kim. Stellar Development Foundation, a nonprofit organization, launched on 31st July 2014 to create blockchain projects. The company developed Stellar, an open-source blockchain protocol facilitating cross-border money transactions involving fiat currencies and digital assets.

McCaleb Ripple’s (XRP) fortunes have made him a billionaire, worth an estimated $20 billion putting him at the 40th position in the Forbes list of the world’s wealthiest persons.

Jean-Louis van der Velde

Projects: Bitfinex and Tether

Jean-Louis van der Velde is best described as a serial entrepreneur and developer with over 30 years of experience in Fintech. Born in the Netherlands, Jean-Louis left his native home in 1985 to study at the National Taiwan Normal University from 1985 to 1988.

He has since lived in the country since establishing several IT companies ranging from Tuxia and PAG Asia. Jean-Louis made his mark in the crypto space in early 2013 when he co-founded Bitfinex, a cryptocurrency trading platform that pioneered digital asset trading.

Bitfinex’s popularity stands by its outstanding partnership with banking institutions and regulatory and law enforcers to create innovations and developments in the Fintech space. Jean-Louis is the current CEO of Bitfinex and has been instrumental in growing it to be one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world.

Jean-Louis is also Tether’s co-founder and current CEO, a controversial stablecoin backed by the US dollar. Tether (USDT) supports various blocks, including EOS, Tron, Bitcoin (Omni and Liquid Protocol), Ethereum, SLP, OMG, and Algorand blockchains.

Behind every cryptocurrency project, some dedicated founders worked tirelessly to turn their ideas into reality. Crypto project founders deserve all the credit for their unique capability of analyzing, innovating, building, and implementing their well thought out ideas to realize immense success in a relatively new technological space. The crypto space could not be where it is currently if it could not be for the founders of the various blockchain projects.
