One of the world’s most recognizable gaming companies is deepening its involvement in blockchain. Square Enix — the publisher behind legendary franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest — is now operating a validator node on the Tezos blockchain, helping secure and maintain the network.

By running a “baker” node, Square Enix participates directly in validating transactions and maintaining the integrity of the proof-of-stake blockchain.
A Major Gaming Brand Enters the Validator Layer
Square Enix has spent decades shaping the gaming industry through blockbuster titles and expansive digital worlds.
Now the company is expanding its presence in the blockchain ecosystem.
Operating a validator node allows Square Enix to take a more active role in blockchain infrastructure, contributing to the operation of the Tezos network while gaining deeper insight into the technology.
“Square Enix has invested in various blockchain initiatives over the years,” said Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of Investment and Business Development at Square Enix Holdings. “Operating a baker node on Tezos allows us to participate in and better understand this technology while contributing to the network's operations.”
Tezos Continues to Attract Gaming Companies
The move highlights the growing relationship between blockchain networks and the gaming industry.
Tezos has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for gaming applications, thanks in part to its energy-efficient proof-of-stake architecture and upgradeable network design.
“Having Square Enix as a validator brings tremendous credibility to the Tezos network,” said Efe Kucuk, Head of Gaming at Trilitech, the Tezos research and development hub. “Their reputation in gaming makes them an ideal partner as we continue to demonstrate Tezos’ potential beyond traditional applications.”
A Growing Blockchain Gaming Ecosystem
The Tezos gaming ecosystem has expanded significantly in recent years.
In 2025 alone, games built on Tezos generated 440,000 unique users and more than 31 million transactions, reflecting increasing interest from both developers and established publishers.

The network now supports a broad range of gaming experiences — from casual mobile titles to large-scale multiplayer games.
Square Enix has already shown interest in blockchain-related projects in the past, backing platforms such as Soccerverse, HyperPlay, and The Sandbox.
Its decision to operate a validator node signals a deeper commitment to exploring how blockchain infrastructure could influence the next generation of gaming.
Gaming and Blockchain Continue to Converge
As blockchain networks mature, gaming companies are increasingly experimenting with how decentralized infrastructure can support new forms of digital ownership, in-game economies, and community-driven ecosystems.
With Square Enix now helping validate the Tezos network, the collaboration highlights a broader trend: major gaming publishers gradually moving from experimenting with blockchain applications to participating directly in the underlying infrastructure.
