BitGo Adds Support for Flare and Songbird, Unlocking Secure Institutional Access to Data-Rich DeFi

In a major move toward scaling institutional DeFi adoption, BitGo has officially launched custody support for Flare (FLR) and its canary network Songbird (SGB). Institutions can now store, manage, and secure these assets through BitGo’s qualified custody and self-managed hot and cold wallets—staking support is also on the way. The integration marks a key milestone in Flare’s institutional roadmap as it continues to build the blockchain infrastructure layer for real-world data, interoperability, and decentralized compute.

Flare Meets Institutional Custody

Flare is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain designed to bring off-chain data on-chain—securely, trustlessly, and at scale. As the only network with native enshrined data protocols, Flare enables new possibilities across DeFi, AI, identity, and enterprise use cases.

Core innovations include:

  • Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO): Decentralized price feeds for stable DeFi operations

  • Flare Data Connector: Trustless access to APIs, cross-chain data, and off-chain events

  • FAssets: DeFi access for BTC, XRP, DOGE, and other non-smart contract assets

  • Verifiable Off-Chain Compute: Upcoming module for fast, auditable ZK/AI compute

With FLR now live on BitGo, institutions gain compliant, secure access to one of the most advanced data-driven blockchain ecosystems in development today.

Songbird: Flare’s Innovation Playground

BitGo has also added custody support for Songbird (SGB)—Flare’s live testnet and staging ground for all major upgrades. Built with real economic incentives and full EVM compatibility, Songbird enables developers to test features like FAssets and oracles in production-like conditions before they hit Flare mainnet.

Now, institutions can custody SGB with BitGo to test and deploy next-gen applications with the same peace of mind and compliance as they would on mainnet.

What’s Next for Flare on BitGo?

This rollout is just the beginning. BitGo’s roadmap includes:

  • Support for Flare’s native token standard

  • Wrapped FLR (WFLR) delegation and staking support

  • Integration with Flare’s P-Chain

  • Native staking for FLR later this year

This extended support makes BitGo a key gateway for institutional players looking to build on or invest in the Flare ecosystem.

“Partnering with a well-established, U.S.-based qualified custodian like BitGo is a key milestone in Flare’s institutional journey. BitGo’s regulatory footprint and support for segregated accounts make them the ideal partner as we launch products requiring compliant custody.”

Hugo Philion, CEO and Co-Founder of Flare

BitGo is one of the few custodians to hold a BitLicense from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), providing a regulatory bridge into U.S. financial markets. With BitGo’s infrastructure, Flare can confidently expand into compliance-focused jurisdictions and partnerships.

Institutional Momentum Is Building

This integration comes on the heels of VivoPower—a Nasdaq-listed company—committing $100 million in XRP to a treasury strategy powered by Flare’s DeFi ecosystem. It’s the latest sign that institutional demand for data-rich, interoperable blockchains is heating up.

By pairing Flare’s technical edge with BitGo’s compliance and custody expertise, the two companies are setting a new standard for secure, scalable institutional engagement in Web3.
