Aerodrome and Velodrome have merged into **Aero**, bringing two of the biggest decentralized exchanges on Base and OP Mainnet into a single platform spanning seven networks.

The [exchange launched](https://aero.xyz/articles/aero-launches-today/) at 8 p.m. ET on October 21, extending its predecessors’ model to **Ethereum Mainnet, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum, Ink and Arc**, alongside Base and OP Mainnet. Its targets include bitcoin-dollar trading, stablecoin foreign exchange and tokenized stocks.

The expansion comes with a redesign of how liquidity gets funded. Through a mechanism called **Predictive Allocation**, Aero asks token stakers to identify markets likely to generate revenue and direct rewards toward the liquidity needed to serve them.

## A Larger Market for a Proven Model

Aerodrome handled 58% of decentralized-exchange volume on Base in Q3 2026, while Velodrome handled 60% on OP Mainnet, according to Blockworks data cited in the launch announcement. The release puts their combined lifetime revenue distributed to tokenholders at **$578 million**, including trading fees and liquidity payments.

Aero is taking that model into a substantially larger trading environment. Its launch release cites DefiLlama figures showing **$121 billion in DEX volume across the seven networks in the 30 days through October 14**, compared with $32 billion on Base and OP Mainnet alone.

That measures the activity across those networks, including competing exchanges. It describes the market Aero can compete for, rather than volume already handled by the new platform.

Robinhood Chain is a particularly relevant addition as tokenized equities find trading venues beyond traditional brokerage accounts. Blockster recently covered the network’s [first $100 billion in cumulative DEX volume](https://blockster.com/robinhood-chain-100b-dex-volume-stock-tokens-100-days), a separate measure from trading in Robinhood’s Stock Tokens.

## Bitcoin, Currencies and Tokenized Stocks

Aerodrome’s existing activity gives Aero a starting point across several asset classes. According to the launch release’s cited Blockworks data, Aerodrome handled **29% of onchain bitcoin-dollar spot volume in Q3**, ahead of other individual DEXs.

For onchain foreign exchange, the release reports $2.80 billion in Aerodrome volume during the first half of 2026, compared with $2.75 billion across all other DEXs combined. That category concerns trading between onchain currencies, including stablecoins.

Tokenized stocks have grown quickly in its trading mix. Aerodrome’s share of tokenized-stock spot trading across Ethereum and its layer-2 networks reached **57% on October 10**, up from roughly 2% in early September, according to the same source.

That is a dated snapshot of trading share within the Ethereum ecosystem. Aero’s expansion gives it more venues in which to compete, while continued market share will depend on liquidity, execution and trader demand.

## Predicting Where Liquidity Will Be Needed

A decentralized exchange needs pools of assets available when users want to trade. Aero’s [Predictive Allocation](https://aero.xyz/features/predictive-allocation/) gives staked AERO holders, known as sAERO holders, a financial reason to direct liquidity rewards toward markets they expect to become productive.

Stakers allocate the exchange’s AERO rewards budget to selected pools. Those rewards attract liquidity providers. In return, the allocators earn a proportional share of the exchange revenue generated by the pools they support while their allocation is active.

For example, a staker who expects demand for a new tokenized-stock market could direct rewards to that pool before trading grows. If the pool subsequently generates revenue, the allocator participates in those earnings. Returns depend on the pool’s actual revenue and the allocator’s share.

The system replaces the predecessors’ weekly allocation cycle with streaming rewards and revenue. Allocation changes remain subject to a cooldown; Aero’s launch hub specifies 47 hours per sAERO position at launch.

## How the Exchange Shares Revenue

Liquidity providers can choose direct fees or AERO rewards. When a provider chooses AERO rewards, trading fees from that position become exchange revenue distributed to the stakers coordinating rewards for that market. Aero says **100% of exchange revenue at launch goes to sAERO holders**.

Rewards are calculated in dollar terms and adjusted with market conditions, with unused rewards held back by pool caps never minted. Issuers and protocols can also pay to encourage liquidity in markets they want to develop.

Alex Cutler, CEO and founder of Dromos Labs, Aero’s core development company, described the expansion in terms of distributing the exchange’s earnings:

> “Aero takes that model to some of the biggest markets onchain, and 100% of the revenue it earns goes back to the people who stake AERO.”

## One Exchange Across Seven Networks

Aero also launches Metaswaps, which connects cross-chain trades using its onchain liquidity, and Slipstream V3, an upgraded automated market maker with dynamic fees and MEV capture on supported layer-2 networks. Autopilot can automate stakers’ allocations and regularly compound or convert their earnings.

The launch consolidates the token system. Existing AERO and VELO upgrade to the new AERO; veAERO and veVELO positions upgrade to sAERO. Aero says the upgraded supply goes entirely to existing holders, split **94.5% to the Aerodrome community and 5.5% to Velodrome**, without a new token sale or venture allocation. Its [official upgrade hub](https://aero.xyz/aero-upgrade/) explains the conversion process and exchange-specific considerations.

For onchain markets, the significance is practical: issuing an asset is only the beginning. It also needs liquidity where people want to trade it. Aero’s wager is that rewarding participants for anticipating that demand can help build deeper markets across a wider network.
